This photo captures the Shindaiku-machi area viewed from the hill of Irabayashi through the torii gate of Wakamiya Shrine. There are no buildings at Katafuchi behind there. The area before the white dirt made warehouse on the left is the residence of Ueno Hikoma at Nakashima where his father, Toshinojo, had the saltpeter refinery. At the time of this photo, Hikoma's studio was a very popular place for samurais at the end of Edo period to have their portraits taken. -6275-
