Dr. Bauduin took a lot of portraits of his acquaintances in his study at the capitan house and this is one of them. After the five-country Treaty of Ansei in 1858, foreigners other than the Dutch started to come to Nagasaki and it became possible for wives and children of the merchants to visit Japan. This is one of the earliest photo of a foreign woman taken in Nagasaki. -6289-
