The rock to the fore is exposed wollastonite. This can be seen all over the temple compounds, and the name Ishiyamadera (Stone Mountain Temple) originates from this. It is designated as a precious natural asset. Said to be the place where Murasaki Shikibu wrote the "Tale of Genji ", the temple has a "Genji Room".
