The Nagara River Steel bridge destroyed in the Nobi earthquake. Three spans out of five collapsed. This steel bridge was designed by the Englishman C.A.W. Pownall, and was completed in January of 1888. It was the biggest in size among the bridges for the railway in Japan at the time.
