Ueno Park was originally a part of the grounds of Kaneiji Temple. However, most of the buildings were destroyed as a result of battles during the Boshin War. It was designated as the first park in Japan in 1873. There are 900 "someiyoshino" cherry trees planted here. The rickshaw may be waiting for a woman shopping at a store (sweet sake shop?).
