The great pier was part of the first harbour construction project started in 1889. The pier was added as an extension to the already existing wharf. The building on the left is the Yokohama Customs Supervision Department built in 1894 and designed by Tsumaki Yorinaka, an illustrious architect of the Meiji Period.
