The stone torii gate and five-story pagoda stand at the entrance to Nikko Toshogu. The gate was donated by Kuroda Chikuzennokami Nagamasa in 1618. Nine meters tall, it is the largest stone torii built in Japan during the Edo Period. The five-story pagoda, approximately 36m tall, was dedicated by Sakai Tadayuki in 1818. The first story of the pagoda is decorated with the twelve signs of the Chinese Zodiac.
