Kitanomido is also known as Nishihonganji Tsumura Betsuin (subtemple). Designated a subtemple in 1876, it served as a rest place for Emperor Meiji at the time of the Meiji Restoration. The Osaka Prefecture Office and Osaka Hospital were also located here at different times. Probably taken in the second decade of the Meiji Period (1877-1887).
