Pine trees along the Tokaido Highway. These were called Awazu-no-Seiran ( "sunny-day storm of Awazu ") because the trees made the whining sound of a storm on windy days. Traffic dropped on the highway after the opening of the railroad line. A total of 556 pine trees are said to have been standing here in 1937, but only a few remain along the old highway today.
