The Kara Gate stands in front after going through the Yomei Gate of Toshogu. Although it looks simple with only white and black colours used, it has statues of Chinese sages carved in the transom and other intricate carvings of dragons going upstream and downstream on the pillars of the gate. It is magnificent with its gold inlay on the see-through walls, which have copper pheasants carved in the upper tier and waterfowl in the lower tier.
