This is a hand-tinted photograph of Takahoko Island taken around 1887 from present day Kaminoshima church, located at the tip of the cape to the west of Nagasaki. The land on the right is Kaminoshima. Also known as Pappenberg, Takahoko was famous abroad as the site of Christian martyrdoms in the 17th century.
