Itsukushima (Miyajima) Island has a circumference of about 30km. Most of the seashore is in its original natural state, and the island has been designated a Special Place of Beauty by the Japanese government. The base rock of the island is granite and many cracks exist. In addition, many sea caves have been formed by waves crashing on the rocky coastline.
