View of the Higashiyama Mountains from the northeast side of Yasaka Shinto Shrine. On the left is the annex of the Yaami Hotel and the wall of the hotel's Western-style main building. The three-story building in the centre is the Yoshimizu Hot Spring where Akashi Hiroakira, promoter of the modernization of Kyoto, built a replica of the Golden Pavilion in 1873. Maruyama Park had not yet been completed, and vegetable fields stretched throughout the area.
