This is the stone torii gate dedicated by Kuroda Nagamasa at the front gate (Niomon) to Toshogu Shrine in Nikko. It is nine meters tall, and the pillars are 1.2 metres in diameter. This is the largest granite torii gate in Japan. Today a plaque with the words "Tosho Daigongen" written by Emperor Gomizuno'o is affixed to the gate, but it is not visible in this photograph.
