A sand delta developed on the north bank of Suruga Bay with the sand carried by the Fuji River and Kano River. A lagoon was formed, and further sand accumulation created the peculiar Ukishimagahara. The boat in the photo is a flat bottom river boat. The river boats had a simple structure with boards stuck together in the shape of boxes.
