This is a hand-tinted picture postcard published between 1890 and 1920 depicts the tree planted by General U.S. Grant at Suwa Park, Nagasaki. Grant visited Japan in 1879 after his retirement as 18th president of the United States, and his first port of call was Nagasaki. He planted a memorial tree in Suwa Park, and a monument was later erected nearby.
