This is a studio photo of a young girl on a rickshaw. Rickshaws were introduced by IZUMI Yosuke of Echizen-Fukuoka Domain in 1870 to the government of Tokyo as °∆The Western style chair with wheels.°« They instantly gained popularity across the nation and replaced the large two-wheeled hand-drawn carts and palanquins. Wheels with rubber tires started to appear after 1900. The speed of the rickshaws was about twice people°«s walking speed.
