Nagasaki developed deep inside a bay surrounded by mountains. Flat land is scarce and the area is very hilly. Graveyards were built on terraces at the foot of Mt. Kazagashira on the east side of the city and Mt. Tateyama on the north. This photo appears to have been taken behind Kotaiji Temple at Mt. Kazagashira, but the actual location is unclear.
