This photo was taken at the tip of Minagesaki (around present day Senshokaku) at Iwasedo-michi. The two sidewheel steamers could be overseas liners. The smaller Japanese vessels on the larger ships’ portside are carrying coal. The buildings of the foreign settlement in the background are, starting from the right, the British Consulate, the Anglican Church, and the Walsh Company. The customs building jutting out into the sea is an important clue to dating the photograph.
